Americans in a Global Society Class

Globalization:
What is globalization? Is it the integration of economies, political systems, and cultures across the
globe? Or is it Americanization and U.S. dominance of world affairs? Is globalization a force for
economicgrowth, prosperity, and democratic freedom? Or is it a force for environmental devastation,
exploitationof the developing world, and suppression of human rights?

Objectives:
In this class we will discuss the meaning of the words social justice and responsibility,
identify both positive and negative impacts of "globalization", discuss ways to participate as
responsible citizens in the global community, and learn more about the many cultures that are
effected by this process.

Process:
This class includes a variety of multimedia lessons, class discussions, self guided web quests, and
student micro-lending project.
