Fast Facts

Edge High School is a free public high school operated by The Edge School, Inc., an independent, non-profit organization. It is an alternative school for students in grades 9-12 who are ready to take charge of their own learning. Student needs are addressed with an individualized, self-paced high school curriculum. Edge High School provides a safe environment that promotes respect, responsibility, choice, service and high expectations. At Edge, students learn behaviors for success.

In addition to coursework developed to complete a high school diploma program, Edge offers courses that are designed to remediate the academic skills of students who enter our high school with skill levels that are below grade level.


HISTORY:

  • Founded in 1985, originally affiliated with Pima County Adult Education and the Pima Community College
  • Received Charter School status from the State Board of Education in 1995
  • Accredited by North Central Association since 1999/2000
ACADEMIC GOALS:
  • To address the educational needs of students using an individualized learning format.To address skills deficiencies, offering Basic Skills Courses in reading, writing and math along with a comprehensive high school curriculum.To provide academic counseling, vocational assessment, life skills training, employability skills training and transition planning.
  • To foster personal and civic responsibility through Student Service Learning.

ASSESSMENT AND PLACEMENT: Each applicant's educational skills are assessed with the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Grade level scores in reading, math and language arts are used to diagnose areas of deficiency for program placement. Using these results, as well as considering any previously earned credits, the case manager and the teacher meet with the student to develop a plan outlining the student's goals and program objectives.
